FQ DONOR SPOTLIGHT: LINDA HERD

What I love about FQ is their commitment to commissioning new music from Australian composers and for the support they give to up and coming young musicians and quartets. This sharing of knowledge and experience is invaluable to those just starting out on their journey with music.
— Linda Herd

Linda Herd, originally from Scotland, has been residing in Melbourne since 2006. She has always loved the Arts, and moving to Melbourne provided her the perfect opportunity to immerse herself in the city's rich cultural and arts scene, which she loves. As a former teacher, Linda values arts education and believes in making the arts accessible to schools. She particularly enjoys seeing school groups attending theatre performances. As a dedicated supporter of FQ's work, we asked Linda why she chooses to support FQ.

How did you encounter Flinders Quartet?

I was introduced to Flinders Quartet by a friend and FQ Board member. I very much enjoyed the variety and quality of the music and the rapport which the musicians had with the audience members in the foyer after the event. This is still true today and it is lovely to know that FQ has a very loyal group of friends and audience members.

What interests you most about FQ, and what motivates you to stay involved?

I am passionate about the Arts in many forms, and I choose to give to organisations whose values align with mine and who are doing things that little bit differently. What I love about FQ is their commitment to commissioning new music from Australian composers and for the support they give to up and coming young musicians and quartets. This sharing of knowledge and experience is invaluable to those just starting out on their journey with music.

How would you describe our work and what does it mean to you?

I love the passion that Zoe and the other the musicians have not only for performing music to the highest standard but also for sharing it with as many people as possible and making it accessible. The commitment of the quartet to education and sharing experiences with young musicians is also important to me.

What are you most passionate about?

My passion for the Arts has certainly grown in recent years and my focus of support has changed in recent years. I would say that my focus is now on accessibility within the arts and supporting organisations who provide opportunities for emerging artists and creatives to grow.

What changes do you believe would make the world a better place?/What would you like to pass on to future generations?

I would love all young people to have the experience of seeing a live performance at least once whilst at school whether that be music, dance or drama. One spark is all it takes to light that fire of possibility and imagination.
